Students in grades PK - 6 have computer classes 1-2 times per week. Our mission is to develop current technology skills necessary for success.
We use several on-line programs, some of which are: Typing Club, Reading Wonders, Starfall, etc. To access all of the programs we use click here.
Students are developing 21st century skills such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving that will help students thrive in today's world. We emphasize how to engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social interactions online. Students begin to learn how to manage their personal data as early as the first grade. They are aware of data-collection technology used to track their individual progress with online testing. Our Middle School students understand the fundamental concepts of technology operations, and can choose, use or troubleshoot several different technologies used in core subjects. They will be able to transfer this knowledge to their high school studies as they explore emerging technologies.
Keyboarding is the foundation of students engaging with technology in proficient and purposeful ways. Physically, the keyboard is the primary and most direct connection between students and most forms of technology. More importantly, it is also their intellectual and creative connection to technology; it is how students' thoughts and ideas make it out of their minds and into the world. It is necessary to understand how important the development of keyboarding skills is. Just like playing the piano, to become proficient it takes daily practice.
G Suite for Education:
St. Patrick of Heatherdowns uses G Suite for Education. Students in grades 4-8 are issued a student google account. This account allows them to use classroom sets of chromebooks as a tool for integrating technology into their core curriculum. With the help of Google Classroom, students learn how to create and express their ideas using the G Suite for Education apps.
